Since graduating from Michigan State University, College of Engineering, with a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering in 1995, Michelle Campbell has made a positive impact to her community, city, state, country, and the world. After graduation, she was at the forefront of 2-way radio, cellular, and broadband communication technologies, becoming one of the highest ranked African Americans at Motorola Solutions. She has also held executive positions at L3Harris Technologies and is currently leading the North America Product Marketing for video surveillance solutions at Robert Bosch.
Michelle has received many awards and has been recognized for many accomplishments during her career, some include "Top 25 Women of Chicago", “Who’s Who in Black Chicago”, Workforce Partner of the Year, Product Manager of the Year and Black Engineer of the Year (BEYA) - Modern Day Technology Leader; but one she is most proud of is addressing the United Nations on how to use broadband communications for disaster recovery. One of the many ways Michelle has given back to her Alma Mater, is her commitment to intentionally hire young Black women from Michigan State University’s College of Engineering for summer internships and permanent employment.
Outside of her career, she gives back through an organization she created in 2020 named S.M.A.C. Productions which stands for Souls Making a Change. The mission of S.M.A.C. Productions is based on what she calls the 6 E’s principles – “EDUCATE, ENGAGE, EMPOWER, ENLIGHTEN, ENERGIZE, and ELEVATE our community to be the positive change we want to see”. She hosts a monthly show (seen on Facebook and YouTube) that addresses topics relevant to our community. In 2010, Michelle became a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR), becoming the first African American in her chapter, and is one of the 100 African American members out of 180,000 members in total. In December 2022, the NSDAR wrote an article on Michelle in their national magazine, the American Spirit magazine, entitled, “Be the Change” which highlights both Michelle’s professional and humanitarian contributions to the world.
In addition to S.M.A.C Productions and the NSDAR, Michelle established and maintains the largest MSU Black Spartans Alumni Facebook page called “Home of the Black Spartans” – which started 13 years ago and has over 3600 members. She also helped establish the Big Ten Black Alumni Network which has over 12,000 members and was founded in 2020. She also co-founded the Black Spartans Takeover Travel Group in 2021 and has hosted hundreds of Spartans in Miami, Atlanta, and Seattle to support the Michigan State Football team at away games and at the latest Peach Bowl.
Michelle also has a Master’s in project management from The George Washington University as well as several other leadership certifications. This mother of 2 young men spends her spare time as her family’s historian, traveling both domestic and abroad, and being an advocate for social responsibility.
